Despite once trailing 3-1 to the Sharks, the Edmonton Oilers completed the comeback and scored three unanswered goals to win in overtime, 4-3. With the victory, the Oilers take a commanding 3-2 series lead.

Patrick Maroon scored early in the first period, giving the Oilers a quick 1-0 lead. However, goals soon after from Mikael Boedker and Patrick Marleau made it 2-1 going into the second period.

Over halfway through the second period, David Schlemko added a tally to give the Sharks a two-goal cushion. However, a late second-period power play would put the Oilers back in this game.

Mark Letestu scored his first goal of the postseason with less than two minutes to go in the middle frame and ended frustration for the likes of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who were growing frustrated and trying to break through the Sharks’ defence.

In the third period, the Oilers amped up the pressure, but couldn’t get much past Martin Jones. Oscar Klefbom finally broke through the wall, shooting an absolute rocket past Jones to tie the game with just minutes to go in regulation time. This game would head to overtime, where the Oilers would greatly outplay and outwork the Sharks.

Edmonton’s hard work and plentiful opportunities paid off, and Draisaitl made a beautiful pass to David Desharnais, who fired it right over Jones’ shoulder to win the game for the Oilers. Because of the team’s excellent puck possession time in the overtime period, they kept up the pressure. And with that, they came out with plenty of chances and eventually earned the victory.

Talbot stopped 27 shots, and Draisaitl shined, putting up two assists and being a critical player on the ice. He made a great offensive push and proved to be an asset every minute he was on the ice. Additionally, Oscar Klefbom played a solid game at both ends of the rink, and Matthew Benning also put up a few helpers and played a great game on the backend.

Edmonton will look to take the series with a Game 6 victory Saturday. The puck drops from San Jose at 8:30 p.m. MT.
