The Edmonton Oilers will retire their primary blue jerseys after the regular season comes to a close. Once they enter the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Edmonton will switch full-time to their orange jerseys.

The Oilers’ orange uniforms have been their third jersey over the last two seasons. Next year, Adidas will replace Reebok as the jersey provider for the league. With this change, Edmonton will have to choose two uniforms – one home and one away – and eliminate a third jersey. They chose to keep the new orange style.
According to Oilers Entertainment Group co-chairman Bob Nicholson, the Oilers have decided to stick with orange to continue carrying on a new legacy.
“I want to touch and respect the past, but we’re in a new building,” Nicholson told TSN. “We’re in a new era. We have a new leader in Connor McDavid. We have a team that is building their identity for today. It’s great to talk about playoff memories from the past and 2006, but this is a new era. We will go orange for the playoffs with the jerseys…”
Nicholson also mentioned that fans will be encouraged to wear orange this coming postseason. The team will make the orange jerseys their new home uniforms next year, but there will be slight design changes to each uniform.
This is a good look for a team looking to build a new culture and start anew. They broke a 10-season playoff drought with a victory Tuesday, and will finally start over as a playoff-ready NHL team. With that being said, having a new look to go with their new winning style should suit them well.
