The Edmonton Oilers have the chance to accomplish a feat they haven’t seen in over a decade. Tuesday, the Oilers can clinch their first playoff berth in 10 years.

It feels pretty great, and regardless of how Tuesday’s game turns out, it is still amazing to see the Oilers still playing important hockey with April right around the corner. Here’s what Tuesday’s playoff-clinching scenario looks like.

Given the Oilers win Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings in any fashion, they will clinch a playoff spot. There is no way they will not see the postseason. That would be the best-case scenario right now, and given the Kings’ recent struggles, the Oilers have the potential to clinch in less than 24 hours. Additionally the Oilers can tie the Ducks for first in the Pacific.

So, let’s go over these game notes, and see what the Oilers will be dealing with. The puck drops at 7 p.m. MT from Rogers Place.

– Despite Laurent Brossoit’s spectacular performance in place of Cam Talbot, Talbot will get the start on Tuesday. He has been a bit rocky through his last few starts, allowing four goals in his last two starts. However, Talbot has won four of his last five, and has also put up two shutouts. Given the circumstances, Talbot will certainly understand the importance of the game and have the confidence to have a strong start.

– Matthew Benning is day-to-day and did not take part in the Oilers morning skate Tuesday. Head coach Todd McLellan mentioned earlier that he should be available this week. Eric Gryba will slot in for him against Los Angeles.

– Anton Slepyshev will likely return to the lineup, taking Jujhar Khaira’s place on the fourth line, according to Jack Michaels.

Lines are expected to remain the same. The Oilers could clinch. It should be a thrilling game.
