Edmonton Oilers centre Connor McDavid has enjoyed a season for the ages. And with eight games remaining he could potentially reach 100 points.
Scoring 100 points in the NHL is a rare feat. There are only a handful of players in the league capable of putting up that type of offence in a single season – and McDavid has the chance to be one them.
The Newmarket, Ontario, native has 88 points in 75 games this year, which puts him six points ahead of Sidney Crosby in the NHL scoring race. McDavid also leads the league in multi-point games (26) and three-point games (10).

Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton’s captain has been on fire over the past two weeks, notching 13 points during his current seven-game point streak. And unsurprisingly, the Oilers have gone 6-1-0 during that stretch and have tied the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks for first in the Pacific Division.
McDavid is on pace to finish with 96 points, but there’s good reason to believe he can still reach the century mark. He needs 12 points in his final eight games to get to 100. Knowing his skill, it is possible and attainable.
Four of Edmonton’s final seven games are against non-playoff teams. The Oilers have two against the Los Angeles Kings and a home-and-home with the Vancouver Canucks to close out the season.
So, McDavid will at the very least have the opportunity to bank a few more multi-point games against teams that are just playing out the schedule.
The Oilers playoff push, which could be clinched Tuesday, has deservedly been the biggest story line in Oil Country this year after a decade of hardship. However, McDavid’s push for 100 points has been a compelling side narrative. He would become the first Oiler to score 100 points in a single season since Doug Weight in1995-96.
McDavid has put himself in contention for the Art Ross and Hart trophies regardless of whether or not he gets 100 points this year, his first full-season in the NHL. It’s reasonable to expect plenty more to come.
