The Edmonton Oilers tied the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks for the Pacific Division lead with a victory over Colorado Saturday. The Oilers defeated the Avalanche 4-1.

With the win, Edmonton now has 91 points on the season, as well as 40 wins. Those 40 victories are the most since the Oilers 2007-08 campaign. Here is everything you need to take away from the Oilers victory.

First off, let’s discuss the situation between the pipes. Laurent Brossoit was given the start following a rocky couple of starts from Cam Talbot. Todd McLellan trusted him at a critical time, and he certainly delivered.

Brossoit calmed down after surrendering a goal on Colorado’s second shot, proving outstanding for the rest of the night. He was excellent with rebounds and positioned himself perfectly. Brossoit made himself big and stood up to the shooters, and also moved quickly across the crease.

The 24-year-old goaltender now has three NHL victories and has been remarkable for the Oilers these last few games. If he keeps it up, he will not only get more playing time but a guaranteed full-time job as the Oilers’ backup netminder.

Leon Draisaitl scored his 26th of the season, taking his team lead in goals. He reached the 70-point mark, making this the first time the Oilers have had two players with +70 points since Ales Hemsky and Shawn Horcoff.

Connor McDavid also notched a helper, and both he and Draisaitl extended their respective point streaks.

The forward with the best game, however, had to be Drake Caggiula. Not only did he get heavily involved, but he had a goal and assist, including an excellent pass that helped the Oilers retake the lead. He also proved to be an asset on the power-play, and impressed in every aspec.t

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also finished with a goal and helper and found himself more involved and perfectly positioned.

In other news, Jordan Eberle skated in his 500th NHL goal.

The only problem was that Matthew Benning took a shot to the right leg, and left with injury. He had to be helped off the ice.

Overall, it was a solid win for the Oilers, and certain players shined bright at critical times. Not to mention, it tied them with two other teams for the Pacific Division lead.

Additionally, the Oilers can clinch their first playoff spot in a decade Tuesday with a win in any fashion over Los Angeles.
