It’s been quite the last month and a bit for the Edmonton Oilers and their fans.
Bob Nicholson, Connor McDavid, Peter Chiarelli and Todd McLellan have now become the building blocks for the organization as a whole moving forward.
Another big part of the Oilers future is the new Rogers Place that is being built on the corner of 104 Ave and 103 St in the heart of downtown Edmonton. Now, with big fancy new arenas comes fancy new seating options as well as increased ticket prices.
The Oilers did the greatest troll job in the NHL, sending out gold cards that has season ticket packages inside.
For those who don’t get the joke, Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly is the one who draws the cards when the NHL draft order is released, and will open what is the gold card.

The McDavid Tax
NHL teams often increase ticket prices, sometimes by as much as 57% like the Chicago Blackhawks did a few years ago. Ryan Batty did a great job showing the price changes for the final season in Rexall Place, and showed that the average increase in ticket price at Rexall is only 7.5%. Quite modest in my opinion.
Comparative to seasons past, this is the first time the Oilers have increased the cost of the average ticket since the 2012/2013 season. Many things could attribute to the price increase, but there is no denying the fact that the acquisition of Connor McDavid through this years NHL Entry Draft has likely played into it.
Times are a changin’ in Edmonton, and despite the increase in ticket prices, Oilers fans should no longer feel animosity towards the team. Be happy with what has come our way, and be grateful for the years to come ahead.
