With rumours still flying that Dion Phaneuf will be traded from the Maple Leafs, Mike Johnston of Sportsnet stirred the pot further by suggesting today that the Oilers are a possible destination. Listing Sam Gagner, Nail Yakupov and David Perron as trade chips, speculation such as that has run rampant all over the media.
With that in mind, we want to know what kind of trade scenario would suit the fans of the Oilers best. What is the best package for both sides?
In our last poll, an overwhelming number of you wanted to see Sam Gagner gone. If he is part of a package most Oilers fans will be elated. Toronto has previously sniffed around Gagner before, so there is interest. They get an experienced center or winger and 2.2 million in cap space, we get a top 2 defenceman. A draft pick and prospect may be on the way too, perhaps a damn good one too.
Yakupov? Doubtful but a possibility. Mactavish has spoken of his desire to groom the player, seeing scoring potential latent in him. It’s a risky move. He was the top rated pick.
What about this year’s pick? Would Gagner plus our first be the asking price? What about Gagner and a swap? Or maybe the Oilers trade one of our defensive prospects, etc…or maybe we pay Dave Nonis to trade Phaneuf for Ilya Bryzgalov‘s Oilers mask.
Below you’ll find four choices that could be a realistic trade scenario. Sound off and let us know where you stand. Leave a comment below too!
