Ilya Bryzgalov to start for Oilers in Columbus

Ilya Bryzgalov will get his second straight start for the Edmonton Oilers tonight when they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets.  After posting a 3-0 shutout over the Nashville Predators last night, the debate around who should tend the Oilers goal tonight has been the majority of the debate surrounding the copper and blue this morning.

The team’s official Twitter account sent out the following tweet confirming that it would be Bryzgalov in goal tonight for Edmonton.

Earlier this morning we asked the readers if they thought Bryzgalov should start on back-to-back nights and an overwhelming 91% felt that he should.

The original plan was to have Bryzgalov and Devan Dubnyk split the back-to-back games this week but after a 33 save performance that helped his team get back into the win column, it was a no-brainer for Eakins.

Especially when you consider he rode Dubnyk during his hot streak that saw the Oilers reel off three wins in a row.

There could be some concern over Bryzgalov’s conditioning given he’s only started in three games, including his time spent with the Oklahoma City Barons.  But as Eakins eluded to, he’s going to go with the hot hand and whom he feels gives his club the best chance to win.  After last night, that’s clearly Bryzgalov.
