Nail Yakupov Injury Update

After missing practice yesterday with what Dallas Eakins described as “a banged up ankle and foot,” Nail Yakukpov was back skating with the Edmonton Oilers Wednesday morning.

According to Rob Tychkowski of the Edmonton Sun, via Twitter, Yakupov was tentative with his ankle at first but after shaking it out, the young Russian resumed his high flying ways of skating.  The outlook is promising that he’ll play tomorrow night in Nashville, although no official word from the Oilers just yet.

Yakupov has 3 goals and 3 assists in his last 7 games for the Oilers and has hopefully rebounded from a tough start that led to much criticism and trade speculation.

Lately Yakupov has been playing along side Sam Gagner and Ales Hemsky, a second line that seems to have found some chemistry for the Oilers.  Granted during the 5-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, there wasn’t much of anything from the Oilers.  But when reflecting back on the three game winning streak, this line showed some life and ability to impose an attack on the opposition on a consistent basis, something we haven’t seen much of from the Oilers this season.

As the updates come in on Yakupov and his bummed ankle, we’ll keep you updated right here at Oil on Whyte.
