Edmonton Oilers Injury Update: Justin Schultz Returns

According to the Edmonton Oilers official Twitter account, defenseman Justin Schultz will return to the lineup tonight when the Columbus Blue Jackets invade Rexall Place.

Schultz has been out with two different injuries, a strained groin and a rib cage injury that have caused the smooth skating blue liner to miss the last eight games.

The 23-year old has drawn much criticism so far this season for his suspect defensive play.  Coming off a rookie campaign that saw him put up 8 goals and 19 assists in all 48-games last year, Schultz has registered just 1 goal and 6 assists in 14 games to start his second pro season.

Like many of his teammates, Schultz’s defensive struggles have been magnified by the club’s poor start and has led to his name being mentioned as a potential trade chip.

Considered to be part of the core group of players that the Oilers can build around for year’s to come, Schultz must pick up his game if the Oilers are to get back on track and gain some respect around the league.  As it stands at the time of posting, Schultz will be paired with Anton Belov for tonight’s game against the Blue Jackets.
