The Edmonton Oilers are slowly but surely getting healthier but it has yet to translate to many additional victories. Key players such as Taylor Hall and Sam Gagner have returned to the lineup as did Jesse Joensuu. Ryan Smyth is also back full time with the Oilers after battling a groin injury and now both Justin Schultz and Luke Gazdic are nearing a return.
Head coach Dallas Eakins informed the media after the Oilers gameday skate today that Schultz is close but not quite ready to return to game action.
The Oilers’ bench boss described the injury as a chronic groin problem and stated that the smooth skating blue liner had a set back this week. Eakins further added that the Oilers are “progressing him slowly” and won’t rush him until he’s 100% healthy.
Furthermore, the Edmonton Journal reports that Schultz is targeting next Tuesday’s home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets for his return to game action.
Meanwhile, forward Luke Gazdic is fully recovered from his injury and is available to go tonight against the San Jose Sharks. Eakins said that the gritty forward will be a consideration for tonight, meaning he could be a game-time decision. Given the Sharks size up front, having Gazdic in the lineup isn’t a bad idea.
