It’s more of the same for the Edmonton Oilers on their gameday as they prepare to host the Dallas Stars tonight at Rexall Place. There is still plenty of buzz surrounding Nail Yakupov following his comments to the media yesterday even after he downplayed the situation this morning and wisely deflected any questions regarding the matter.
The Oilers limp home after a tough four-game road trip that saw them win just one game, courtesy of the equally low Florida Panthers. The buzz surrounding the brutal start and what it’s going to take to turn this club around is a daily and sometimes hourly discussion when Oilers’ fans have nothing else to debate.
The additional buzz for tonight’s game comes in the form of former Oilers’ captain Shawn Horcoff making his return to Edmonton as a member of the Dallas Stars. The trade was made last summer that sent the long-timer Oiler to Dallas as part of Craig MacTavish‘s plan to reshape the roster and shed some bloated salaries. It’ll be interesting to see what type of reaction Horcoff receives from the hometown crowd and anything short of applause would be difficult to understand. He was always a good leader, just ask him teammates and to point to the hefty contract that was offered by Steve Tambelini, Horcoff not living up to it was not his fault. Sure his production was way down when comparing it to the $5 million dollars he was paid annually, but you can’t blame the player for accepting an outrageous offer that his GM makes.
On to the lineups, followed by the note worthy section.
