Does anyone else find it interesting that Linus Omark is recalled when the team is becoming healthy up front? Taylor Hall returns to the line-up tonight. Bob Stauffer is reporting that Jesse Joensuu and David Perron are likely to return this weekend.
Let’s look at the evidence. The following players were called up before Omark. Ryan Jones, Anton Lander and Ryan Hamilton were all summoned to play when offensive players like Hall, Gagner and Nugent-Hopkins were out of the lineup. If the Oilers really thought that Omark was part of the their future or that he could help them offensively; you would think he would have been one of the first call-ups. In fact the Oilers were so starved for offence that they were shutout two times at home and Omark was still in Oklahoma.
The fact that he is being called up now, when the Oilers will soon have to make some roster decisions up front are a clue that the Oilers are trying to move him.
Interestingly, Bob Stauffer is suggesting on Oilers Now that the Oilers have had previous interest in Keith Aulie. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=89905 Aulie has played 2 games for the Lightning this season. Is it coincidence that Omark is drawing in against those same Lightning? Draw your own conclusions.
Either there is already some interest in Linus Omark or the Oilers are trying to create a market for him. The next couple of weeks should be interesting. Stay tuned….
