The Edmonton Oilers have assigned forward Ryan Hamilton to the Oklahoma City Barons according to the team’s official Twitter account.
Hamilton is fresh off recovering from a knee injury that is one of the reasons he’s only suited up in two games this season. He did play in the Oilers game on Saturday that saw them abused and tossed aside by the Detroit Red Wings. It was his first action since the win over the New Jersey Devils back in early October. The big bodied forward has yet to record a point this season through the two games.
With Ryan Smyth returning to the Oilers lineup tonight in Florida and the possibility of having Taylor Hall and Jesse Joensuu back for the Flyers game on the weekend meant Hamilton’s roster spot was in jeopardy.
Hamilton has ties to Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins from their time with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL over the past couple of seasons. He does bring some much needed size to the lineup but with the fourth line being unproductive, juggling the line with players like Ben Eager, Ryan Jonesg and Luke Gazdic means Hamilton’s time with the big club is over, at least for the time being.
