Edmonton Oilers Recall D Taylor Fedun

The Edmonton Oilers have recalled defenceman Taylor Fedun from the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL according to the team’s official Twitter account.

Having Fedun join the club will plug the holes left by the injured Anton Belov and Justin Schultz, both of whom won’t dress tomorrow night against the Florida Panthers.

Schultz is still battling some tender ribs and a nagging groin injury while Belov has a bad knee that is keeping him from skating.

Fedun has played in twelve games for the OKC Barons so far this year, scoring 1 goal and adding 3 assists.  Last year with the minor-league Barons, the Edmonton native scored 8 goals and added 19 assists for 27 points in 70 regular season games.

Tuesday’s game in Florida will mark Fedun’s NHL debut, providing he is inserted into the lineup.  With the banged up blue line and no other call-ups at the moment, it’s hard to fathom that he won’t suit up.

The 25-year old was never drafted by an NHL team and spent four seasons playing for the University of Princeton.  The Oilers signed him as a free-agent following the 2010-11 season that saw him put up 10 goals and 22 points in 29 games for the Tigers.
