1st Star – Jason LaBarbera
He was one conversation away from getting the start in Saturday’s game and although hindsight is always 20/20, maybe Eakins shouldn’t have let Devan Dubnyk “talk” him into giving him his second straight game.
None the less, this loss isn’t on Dubnyk and LaBarbera came in and played solid in goal. Granted the game was well out of reach when he came in, the so called “backup” kept the game from getting embarrassing, at least on the score board.
Finishing the night with only 12 saves, it wasn’t necessarily a busy night for LaBarbera but he did make some big saves late in the game to hold the score.
If nothing else, it served as an audition for the Oilers next game which is on Monday against the New Jersey Devils. While nothing is guaranteed, seeing Jason LaBarbera start that game for the Edmonton Oilers is the next best thing.
