Internally the Oilers have a couple of players that could step up to fill the second line centre, providing Boy Gordon remains on the third line.
The first is Mark Arcobello who recently re-signed with the Oilers this off-season. He’s small in stature, standing in at 5’9″ so the wing is not the place for him.
Arcobello has just one game under his belt at the elite level which begs the question if a second line position would be too overwhelming for him.
In two seasons with the OKC Barons he’s registered 18 goals and 37 assists in 99 regular season games. During the playoffs last season Arcobello played in 14 games, scoring 5 times. Not a bad pace for someone with only two years of AHL experience behind him.
Still, Arcobello would be hard pressed to fill in the role of Sam Gagner on the second line, making him a long shot at best as an option.
