There are rumblings that the Kings will try and re-sign Scuderi and he is surely to receive plenty of interest around the league. A solid defensive defenseman, Scuderi’s talents would improve the Oilers meltdowns in their own end by stabilizing the opponents offensive attacks.
He is 34 years of age, which could be cause for concern. But when you consider the fact that he’s missed only ten combined games in the last five years and not a single one for three straight seasons, the argument could be made that he is your reliable and durable blue liner. The critics could say that he’s due for a blown tire at his age, but he’s worth the risk.
Not known for his offensive contributions, just 4 goals in the last five seasons, Scuderi is most valuable for his defensive play. The last two seasons he’s slipped to a minus rating (-7 and -6 respetively) but prior to that he went five straight seasons with a rating of plus-1 or better. Granted playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins always helps that particular stats.
He’s coming off a 4-year deal that paid him $3.4 million per season and it’s safe to say he’ll be in store for a raise, albeit a modest one.
Oil on Whyte projected salary: 3-years, $12.5 million
