Oilers Content To Sit And Watch This One Play Out

Straight and to the point.  You’ve got to wonder if Stauffer is starting to get irritated.

The team is scheduled to get Shawn Horcoff back soon, likely on Sunday against Chicago.  The bottom six needs all the propping up in can get, what with Ryan Smyth being forced to play centre in Nashville.  What a disaster.

Also:  “the cavalry is NOT coming via trade” sounds pretty strong that this team is pretty content to ride this one out into the sunset.  The team knows that it’s tougher to win the draft lottery outright this year, right?  There’s only a 25% chance if you finish with the worst record in the league (the Oilers are one point out of 30th as of this sentence).

We’re halfway through the season.  Here are some formatted bullet points to help me drive home the fact that this season has up and gone.

  • The Oilers have 21 points in 24 games.
  • This translates to 42 points over 48 games.
  • This works out to 72 points over a full season.
  • Total amount of points accumulated in the 2011-12 season:  74.

That’s right, home scorers.  This year’s team is somehow expected to finish worse than last year’s team over the course of a full season.

Chicago tomorrow.
