VIDEO: Taylor Hall Suspended 2 Games For Hit On Cal Clutterbuck

Taylor Hall has been suspended for 2 games after this hit on Cal Clutterbuck.

The hit took place late in the third period of last night’s 3-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild.

A few thoughts on the hit -

• This hit is probably perfectly legal 20 years ago.  Today, it won’t fly.   Just like Scott Stevens making work of Eric Lindros, Stevens would probably face a substantial suspension if the Lindros hit happened today.
• My opinion?  It was a bad hit.  Hall hit Clutterbuck some on the hip, and some on the knee.  It’s not 100% clean either way.  If it was a flying hip check, Hall gets no games.  It wasn’t a clean hip check, and that’s why we’re here today.
• I don’t think Taylor Hall did this to be malicious.  I do think Hall wanted to lay the guy out.  I don’t think he wanted to cripple the guy at centre ice.  It was a bad decision, and when he went in to commit, it was too late to pull back.  Then again, I’m not in Taylor Hall’s head.
