The Oilers have acquired defenceman Mark Fistric from the Dallas Stars in exchange for a third round pick.
I got one word for all of that:
Good. It’s about time.
That’s four words. You get the idea.
MARK FISTRIC
DEFENCE
SHOOTS: LEFT
DOB: 01-JUN-1986 (26)
3-20-23, 220 PIM in 257 GP (0.09 points per game)
2013 SALARY – 1.475M
CONTRACT: Will be UFA on 05 JUL 2013
Mark Fistric is an NHL player. He is on a one-way deal valued at 1.475M which is a tad heavy for a 5-6 guy. A left handed shot. Fistric is a native Edmontonian and will be a fan favourite. At a recent auction, 1 ounce of pure Fistric was found to have the same value as 8.3 ounces of Cam Barker.
A former first round pick of the Dallas Stars (28th overall in 2004), Mark Fistric is not going to chip into the scoring. He is a tough, physical defenceman who will be an every night player. Best part? Fistric is not a thug on skates. What he can’t do on the scoresheet, he makes up in the physicality department. He can PK, and if anything holds true in Edmonton as it did in Dallas, he’ll be good for at least 15 minutes of ice time most nights.
Will do. RT @hockeypedia: @sportsnetspec retweet this for your followers who want to know more about Fistric.youtube.com/watch?v=V918zE…

This is a good deal. It’s not an earth-shattering “wow” move, but this is a third round pick traded for a real, live, breathing NHL defenceman who can play NHL hockey on a nightly basis.
I noticed that this deal went down just hours after Theo Peckham was suggested to have “tweaked” something (courtesy Gene Principe). I’m not sure if the team acquiring Fistric was at all related to Peckham’s injury. More on that as it comes in.
