The NHL is suggesting that the players meet the owners without Bettman or Fehr. The Players say they’ll think about it and get back to them. Weeeeeeee, around the rollercoaster we go. I personally think that a meeting without the heads of each side can’t really be all that bad. But if a deal comes out of said meeting the players are going come out on the short end of the stick guaranteed.
The big day IMO comes on Wednesday when the owners hold their board of governors meetings. My guess is they will discuss 2 things;
1- What to say to the players if they do agree to meet sans leadership
2- Decide what day to cancel the rest of the season.
In regards to question 1, I don’t think the owners will waiver too much on their offer. The top tall foreheads of that group will convince the rest of the owners to tow the party line. I believe there will be a lot of debate amongst them on whether or not to soften the offer in order to get hockey in, but again I believe the Boston, Philly, Calgary and Minnesota owners who have been with this from the start will win over the rest of the group.
Question 2, the answer to that will revolve around whether or not the players decide to meet. If they don’t meet and there is no significant communication soon the owners will announce the cancellation of the 12-13 season on December 14th. I know you will say they didn’t cancel the season in the last lockout until February (It’s sad that there is a precedent on this isn’t it?) but maybe it will be done as a favor to the fans to officially put us out of our misery.
Hope I’m Wrong. Because I’m definitely getting frustrated.
