NYC is where NHL and NHLPA will resume talks Monday…

We’re about one notch away from soap opera status.
News swirled like a fart in a packed elevator Friday that Fearless Leader wanted to take a two week sabbatical from trying to help save the season. It was a great public relations move. Wings defenceman Ian White loved it. Leafs defenceman John-Michael Liles was also a big fan. Joffrey Lupul was also quite fond of the move. I’m sure there were more NHLers who were enthralled with this brilliant public relations strategy, but those were the three I found first.
If it looks like I’m pointing the finger especially hard at Bettman and the owners, you’re right. You can make a solid argument that the PA did nothing to help get the season underway, and I can’t call you wrong. But what if Don Fehr stated he wanted to take a two week break until the beginning of December? What a mess.
Enough murmuring took place that both sides have agreed to come together this Monday to see if they can make any headway. I’m not getting my hopes up too awfully high, but getting in the room is a pretty good start if progress is to be made. With just two weeks remaining in November, things have to move awfully quick in order to get a chance at December hockey.
