I’m trying to remain level-headed about the current absence of NHL hockey.
With Yakupov playing lights out in the KHL, it’s becoming tougher and tougher to remain calm.
Yakupov is killing it with his hometown club in Nizhnekamsk so far. Yakupov leads the club in goals with 10 (including two in his most recent game versus Torpedo, a 4-2 victory), and is averaging over 4 shots per game.
Don’t watch the KHL? No problem.
Check out a few highlights.
- Yakupov’s first career KHL goal : right place, right time.
- Yakupov scores the first goal in a 3-2 victory over Lev
- A secondary assist followed by a goal on a wicked wrist shot aren’t enough to save the day, as Niznekamsk drops a 5-4 decision to Slovan
- Yakupov buries the game winner with just ten seconds left in regulation to give Niznekamsk a 5-4 victory over Siberia.
In short, Yakupov is meeting and exceeding nearly every expectation you could have for a 19 year old on the ice. Maybe we’ll get to see him on Rexall’s ice sometime in 2012-13.
