TSN: "Optimistic" Gretzky Targets January 1st Return For NHL

If you had any inclination of any sort of eleventh-hour intervention, you might want to go put it back into a little box and place it back over your fireplace, or under your bed, or wherever you keep things that you won’t need to look at for a few months.

Just a bit ago, Wayne Gretzky was quoted by The Canadian Press as saying that he’s ‘optimistic’ that the NHL will return by the New Year. I guess half a chocolate bar is better than no chocolate bar at all, but I don’t necessarily think that’s an ‘optimistic’ point of view, at least, I didn’t a few minutes ago. What’s the less optimistic point of view, 2004-05?

The only optimism I can see about a January 1 return is that the NHL won’t forfeit the Winter Classic (which is an event that I could take or leave). Until the NHL returns, you are encouraged to focus your attention on to the OKC Barons, the Oil Kings, you could get that all-cat Yahtzee leagues started up,  or whatever else you can find time for.

Until then, we wait.
