Schultz Chooses Edmonton As His Place Of Employment

This sort of thing happens just as I put my pants on and have to go to work.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the past eight hours, defenceman Justin Schultz has chosen the Edmonton Oilers to begin his fruitful NHL career.  If I had to fashion a guess, the chance at significant playing time had to play a role in his decision.

Whatever the reason, let’s not get too large in our leisure suits about this signing.  It’s nice to see a highly touted prospect pick Edmonton for once, but don’t even begin to think that this solves any or all of the problems this team has on defence.  The team would be well advised to pick up at least a second-tier defenceman during tomorrow’s festivities.  I hear Marc-Andre Gragnani could be had for probably a million or less.

But he hasn’t even played an NHL game yet!  Yes, you’re right.  Anyone who thinks that Justin Schultz is this team’s saviour is likely off their rocker.  He hasn’t yet played an NHL game.  But, his numbers with the University of Wisconsin look good.  If you’ve seen him on film or in person, he’s often the best player on the ice at any given time.

Yes, I know this is the collegiate level, but he’s just floating around those guys.

This is an excellent first piece to the defence.

Now go out there and get me another free agent.

Well, yes.  That would do nicely.
