Khabibulin Out “7-10 Days”, Oilers Call On Yann Danis

Before I could completely finish the game review of last night’s barn burner, news has broken.

Goaltender Yann Danis was recalled from the OKC Barons today after we learned Oilers goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin will be shelved for the next ’7-10 days’ with a groin injury sustained in last night’s 5-2 defeat against the Canucks.

Olivier Roy was called up from the Stockton Thunder to replace Danis in OKC.

Danis’ numbers with OKC are impressive:  Danis is 21-10-1 with a 1.98 GAA and .926 SV%.  Danis has also garnered five shutouts for the Barons so far this year.

With Khabibulin getting put on the shelf for a week or so, this will turn whatever trade interest there was in him down a giant toilet, and on to the much more pocket-friendly Evgeni Nabakov.

It’s uncertain how much (or if any) Danis will play with the Oilers.

More info on this when it becomes available.
