Buffalo has garnered one point in their last three games, an OT loss to Ottawa on New Year’s Eve. The Oilers are 1-2 on their current six game road trip thanks to a 4-3 victory over the Blackhawks in Chicago last night. The Oilers have a chance to make it 2-2 with a victory tonight in Buffalo…
- …but it will need to come without Tom Gilbert or Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Nugent-Hopkins appeared to have lost an edge and injured his left shoulder crashing into the boards, while Gilbert was the recipient of an idiotic hit from Dan Carcillo. Carcillo will likely get a handful of games for a suspension, and whatever number he gets should likely be tripled or quadrupled. I’m better now.
- The Oilers have called up Colten Teubert (who will likely be inserted into the lineup tonight) as well as Josh Green (who I didn’t see coming). Green will likely move into 4C with Lander moving up a notch.
- Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek both lead the Sabres in points with 39 each. Think the Sabres are happy they kept Vanek over four first round picks? Put it to you this way: I’m glad the Sabres were able to keep Vanek.
- Nikolai Khabibulin will get the go-ahead to start in goal for the Oilers. Khabibulin will look for his twelfth victory on the season.
Sabres are only 9-9-4 at home. Oilers surprise, winning second game in 24 hours.
