Sitting six points out of eighth place, the Oilers need themselves a win.  Oilers have won just two of their last ten (and 6-13-1 over their last 20…) and they face a formidable opponent tonight in the Detroit Red Wings.  The Wings are just 7-8 on the road, but the Oilers can’t afford to play anything less than sixty minutes of fury tonight.

  • You cannot stop Pavel Datsyuk.  You might be able to contain him.  You can however, perform voodoo.  Pavel Datsyuk leads Detroit in scoring with 33 points (10G-23A) in 31 games.
  • Jimmy Howard (19-7-1, 1.91 GAA and .929 SV%) will likely face off against Edmonton’s Nikolai Khabibulin (10-7-3, 2.00 GAA and .932 SV%).  Scary how close those two stat sets are.
  • Horcoff is back at centre.  2C to be exact.  Gagner is back on 3LW.  Hordichuk sits, Eager/Lander/Petrell is your fourth line.  Defence holds.
  • SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS:  Oilers are averaging just over 20 shots per game over their last three.  If the Oilers fancy themselves a contender against Detroit tonight, they’re going to have to get at least ten on top of that.
  • HOME, THEN ROAD:  After tonight’s game against the Red Wings, the Oilers play Minnesota on Thursday.  Then, they’re out of Alberta until the 11th of January.  Oilers have dropped some big points as of late, a win tonight would do this team’s morale wonder.
  • Your Top Five Oilers in scoring….
  1. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, 33 points (13G-20A) in 32 GP
  2. Jordan Eberle, 33 points (12G-21A) in 32 GP
  3. Ryan Smyth, 27 points (12G-15A) in 32 GP
  4. Taylor Hall, 21 points (9G-12A) in 24 GP
  5. Shawn Horcoff, 20 points (7G-13A) in 32 GP

I can dream.
