With the loss against Nashville last night, and Paajarvi getting top six minutes, The Olilers need to make a decision on this player. As he just can’t keep up right now.
Taylor Hall is out 2-4 weeks with a shoulder injury. Magnus Paajarvi took his spot on the line with Horcoff and Hemsky last night, and as Rob Brown of the Oilers radio network put it after the game, “he looked lost out there.” Paajarvi needs to either figure it out next game or go to OKC to get his game back.
Magnus has not deserved the opportunities he’s gotten this year. He needs to be able to raise the level of his game if he wants to stay in Edmonton. Other players have not been given the same opportunities that Paajarvi has received. Case in point: Linus Omark. Linus went to the American League and found some game before getting injured recently. Other players that have been struggling have made use of their opportunities, like Sam Gagner. Up until last night Gagner had three points in the last four games and looks a lot better since he dropped the gloves in probably his only fight of the year a few games ago.
Paajarvi needs to go get top six minutes playing in every situation on the farm and get some confidence back in his game. We all know this kid is an NHL player. He’s got the speed, smarts, and the skills, but he’s just not gettin it done on any level. He’s not even doing the things struggling offensive guys are supposed to be doing when not producing points. He turns away from checks, he loses battles on the boards, and he’s not using that speed to beat guys to loose pucks.
In my humble opinion, on Wednesday against the Wild, the Oilers need to put Gagner in Hall’s spot, and put Magnus back on the third or fourth line. And if Paajarvi doesn’t make something happen…he needs to go down and we should call up Cornet who is ripping the AHL apart right now, if he’s not leading that league in scoring, he was at one point not that long ago.
Tell me what you think should be done with Paajarvi in the comments below.
