Obviously I was incorrect about Magnus Paajarvi getting any points let alone two goals, but I will take credit for calling the Hall Hattrick. The go hawks hash tag was during the Canucks / Hawks game on Friday as I was cheering for the Knuckleheads to lose.
In my opinion, the key to tonight’s game is get a good start like they did with Ottawa the other night, but bury one early and get the hawks on their heels right away. We will have to try and play run-n-gun hockey with them and use our speed and skill to beat them. The problem is that their defence is much better than ours and they have just as much speed and skill as we do up front, if not more.
And play run-n-gun hockey they did! A 9-2 victory hasn’t been seen in this town since the glory days! check out the highlights, as I know you’re not sick of them yet.
I can’t say anymore here othe than…thanks Oilers for getting this done at home where I had the pleasure of seeing it in person.
THE OTHER SIDE:
The other thing I have seen coming is the play of former Oiler Sheldon Souray. I’m sure I will get some hate comments here for saying what I have to say, but it’s my opinion in my blog, and I welcome the comments of all who take time to write them.
It came out on twitter today that Sheldon Souray was refusing to talk to the media. Twitterverse immediately exploded with comments from media and others that this was “weak”, “yellowbellied”, etc… I didn’t see any of these same people retract their words once Souray decided to talk to the Edmonton media.
Personally, I am on the side of what’s better for the Oilers on the ice. The locker room is a thing will get worked out between guys. I honestly don’t think bad attitudes and
ego’s will wear off on anyone who is smart enough to know better as was suggested was going to happen with all the young players that were coming into the Oilers room at the time. Alpha-Male egos are everpresent in sports. Most players have this type of mentality in order to get them where they are. Some guys handle it better than others. The Oilers and Souray could’ve worked it out and put it behind them.
Sheldon Souray would make this team better. Like it or not. I get that he’s not here and these points are just for debate, but the Oilers need exactly what Souray brings to the table. Especially now.
It’s been reported today that Nikolai Khabibulin will get the start for the Oilers. It’s also reported that Paajarvi and Eager will sit out tonight. the lines will remain similar to what they were on Saturday against the Hawks, except Hordichuk & Petrell will be in for the aforementioned scratches.
One thing that worries me about the game tonight is that the Dallas Stars announced a new owner for their organization today. Tom Gaglardi is the new owner and when teams get a new Coach, GM or Owner, they usually have a good game. Hopefully that will not be the case tonight.
GO Oilers GO!

Huge fan of the Edmonton Oilers! I am a season ticket holder, that attends 90% of all home games. My Goal is to see the Oilers play in every rink in the league. I have been to 6 so far. With Winnipeg being the last stop Feb 27 2012!
This blog is about being a fan in a hockey mad city, from the fan's perspective. I welcome all commentary, good or bad and hope you enjoy my rants.
