With the Chicago Blackhawks in Edmonton tonight for the late game on HNIC, The Oilers are going to find a very skilled and pissed-off team tonight. Last night in Calgary, The Lames manged to put the beat down on the Hawks to the tune of 5-2.

With four straight losses both in the standings and the Defence, the Oilers blue-line is hanging by a thread. As Jeff mentioned here, Taylor Chorney & Colton Teubert have been recalled to replace Corey Potter (day to day) & Andy Sutton (day to day) who were latest injury woes to the defence which had Cam Barker (3 months) an Ryan Whitney (10 Days) already on the IR.

The Chicago Blackhawks in my opinion will expose this Defence group with abandon. Edmonton has three guys that have played more than one season, Tom Gilbert, Laddislav Smid, and Theo Peckham in the line-up tonight. ther rest are a rookie (Petry), a prospect (Colten Teubert) and a call-up that we had previously released to the waiver wire (Chorney).

There are some media personalities here in Edmonton that keep pushing for a trade to occur, or at least suggesting that the Oilers are in the market for a defeceman now, where they haven’t been before. Personally I don’t think this is the case. Even if it should be. I think we (the fans) are going to be served another injury filled season that will be a little more meaningful now that Edmonton has a cushion in the standings from the awesome start this team had.

It’s ot just the Defence that is sagging either. The Edmonoton Oilers are 1-4 since the return of Ales Hemsky from injury. I am surprised he is still here as I had the over/under on the number of games until he is re-injured, at 3. I had written that I would like to see him do less of the heavy lifting in the corners so that re-injury is less likely. Well…I have seen this in action in the last 5 games since his return, and I am now eating my words and doing a 180 on that opinion. He is not the same player when not going to the tough areas and being fearless as we’ve seen in the past. He’s played a total of 7 games and has 4 assists total. He needs to start scoring though.

In my opinion, the key to tonights game is get a good start like they did with Ottawa the other night, but bury one early and get the hawks on their heels right away. We will have to try and play run-n-gun hockey with them and use our speed and skill to beat them. The problem is that their defence is much better than ours and they have just as much speed and skill as we do up front, if not more.

Khabibulin get the start in net tonight to face his former team. I just hope it’s not like last game a week ago where Chicago got six goals past him.

You tell us what you would like to see happen this year, and where you are comfortable with finishing in the standing as fans of the Oilers.
