Oilers Play Perfect Against Nashville Then Get Burned By Flames

Edmonton vs. Nashville…

The Edmonton Oilers played what was as perfect a game as you will see this year On Monday against Nashville. The Preds like to play a defense first type of game that grinds teams down and lulls them into making costly turn-overs. The Oilers didn’t fall victim to their strategy and only gave 12 shots on net all game long.

The Preds struck first in the first two mins of the second period and it wasn’t until the third period that the Oilers woke up and got down to it. Shawn Horcoff played better in this game than I have seen in 3-4 years. He assisted on all three goals that Oilers scored. The goal that connected with Ryan Smyth on was a beautiful heads-up pass that Smytty easily slid past Pekka Rinne who was in the Nashville net. obviously the good mojo from his bobblehead night, was in full effect. If you haven’t seen it yet…check it out.

The two kids, Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also got the team started on PP with a beauty snipe from hall and an unbelievable pass from RNH! The Oilers special teams play has been much improved in the early goings of this season, I just hope this will continue. The PK was perfect again in this game. The Oilers took 5 penalties and did not allow a PP goal.

it was a great night to be at the rink even if the game wasn’t very pretty watch for the first two periods. And I got two bobblesmyttys out of it too!

Edmonton Vs. Calgary…

I am currently in Lloydminster working and was totally stoked to watch the game, tweet all-game-long and write this piece after the game. Well…as I write this, I am parked in my truck in the parking lot of McDonalds so that I can get an internet connection! Don’t ever tell me that I’m not committed. (maybe I should be) The Hotel that I am staying at is completely signal-less when it comes to the internet or even my cell. I couldn’t do anything and had to come out here to het this done. UGHHH!

Anyway.. I missed the second period as I was in this same Mc’ds getting some critical work done. I did see the first & only goal that was scored by Tom Gilbert. And again it was another PP goal to boot.

When I got back for the third period, I managed to get a few tweets from tweeps I connect with, to find I hadn’t missed anything and twitterverse was referring to the game as a #snoozefest.

Then Tragedy struck in the third and we let the game slip away. Calgary scored two quick goals to win and Kiprusoff saved Calgary’s bacon in the dying moments with our net empty to win the game. Boumeester scored the first goal for the Lames. He couldn’y buy a goal last year and was a total bust. But of course he manages to pull one out of his ass tonight. Tanguay picked up a lucky rebound on a point shot from Sarrich to put the game away.

The Oilers were perfect on PK again tonight killing for power-plays by the Flames. I am totally blown away at how well the PK has been playing thus far. Anyone that was critisizing Steve Tambellini for the moves this summer to improve the PK and PP should be feeling a lot better today.

Remeber that Taylor Hall did not play in this game, he’s ill I guess and they sat him out. but the great news is that Ryan Whitney is back! Lets hope Hall plays on Thursday so the Oilers can crush the Minnesota Wild!
