Well, that was quick.  About a week?

The newest model in Edmonton has been signed to a three year entry level contract.  Nice to know that the team was able to lock down the numbers before Nugent-Hopkins enters development camp on Monday.

If Nugent-Hopkins is able to lock down a spot on the opening night roster, then his 9 game trial will begin.  If he plays in a tenth game this season,  a year of his entry level deal will be used.  You’ll remember that the team played all three of Taylor Hall, Magnus Paajarvi and Jordan Eberle well over ten games last year.  Will they do the same with Nugent-Hopkins, or will they send him down for a bit more seasoning?

You’ve made it through day two.  And strangely, so have I.  This isn’t so bad.  The organisation hasn’t thrown a wad of cash at a Tim Connolly, or an Ed Jovanovski.  We’re going to make it through this offseason without a catastrophic signing, and the team is going to be (gasp!) competitive. Baby steps.

There’s still some more work to be done.  Let’s see if Tambellini and Co. can find some more pieces..
