Didn’t see that one coming at all. At least, not quite yet.
Tough nosed Liam Reddox has signed a deal that will see him join the Vaxjo Lakers of the Swedish Elitserien beginning next season.
Reddox, a fourth round choice in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft had looked like he had finally found a home on the Edmonton roster after playing in 44 games in 2010-11. Should the team somehow not have come to an accord with either JF Jacques or Steve MacIntyre, Reddox appeared to be an easy choice for a fourth line plugger.
Reddox finished with 1G-9A-10PTS in those 44 NHL games last season, his greatest asset was perhaps his penalty killing which kept the Oilers out of the statistical basement in 2010-11.
Reddox would have been a restricted free agent come July 1st, and with a base salary of 550K it probably wouldn’t have cost a ton to keep him around. All of us in the Oil On Whyte home office wish Reddox some good shooting in Sweden. You’ll be missed in Edmonton.
