Phoenix Coyotes @ Edmonton Oilers – Game 71

And here we go…

  • If you’re just stopping in to the dance party, the Oilers lineup is in a bit of trouble.  Because the Oilers are forced to dip into the reserve tank that is the Oklahoma City Barons, the Barons aren’t faring too well either.  Recent call ups include Alexandre Giroux, Chris Vande Velde, Teemu Hartikainen, and Ryan O’Marra.  This doesn’t include guys like Reddox and Omark who have been up on the big club for some time now.  Either way you slice it, both clubs are hurting.  Tonight’s lineups should be one for the record books.
  • Defenceman Keith Yandle leads the Coyotes with 57 points (11G-46A) in 70 games.

  • Tonight is the fourth time the Oilers have faced off against Phoenix this year, going 1-1-1 in the first three.  Some guy named Dustin Penner had the game winner for Edmonton last time around.  I hear he’s doing OK in Los Angeles these days.
  • Goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin is likely to start tonight for the Oilers between the pipes.  Khabibulin is looking for his first win in a month, and his third win since the new year.  Now’s as good of a time as any.

Injured or traded? JFJ is here. Screen cap from oilers.nhl.com

  • He’s tied with a few other Oilers, but if you have a quick peek at the Oiler scoring leaders against Phoenix this year you’ll see that JF Jacques is the active Edmonton player atop the list.  That had to at least have made you smile.  If it didn’t, drink again.

Gonna be a fun one tonight.
