2011 NHL Draft Could Be The Year Of The “Q”

NHL Central Scouting has compiled their top thirty preliminary choices for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Their number one pick comes as no real surprise.

Central Scouting has tabbed centre Sean Couturier as their early odds on favourite to be the number one pick.  With the way he’s currently playing for Drummondville, there’s little to argue with. Couturier finished with 96 points in 2009-10, and according to the NHL, he’s the first seventeen year-old to lead the QMJHL’s scoring since Sidney Crosby.

Couturier is currently leading scoring in the QMJHL with 34 points (14G-20A) in 26 games.

Should Couturier be picked first overall in 2011, he’d break a streak of four consecutive number one selections from the Ontario Hockey League.

WHL Red Deer centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is pencilled in at the number two slot, while Swedish Elite defenceman Adam Larsson currently sits at number 3.

Let the speculation commence.
