The three headed goalie monster appears to have lost one of its heads today.
Today, the Edmonton Oilers have waived backup netminder Jeff Deslauriers. Should no other team take a stab at Deslauriers’ $1.05M cap hit, he will report to Oklahoma City.
Finally. It happened. It only took nine games, but someone had to move, and that someone happened to be JDD. It’s a beautiful thing to have two goaltenders on the roster, but it’s a dynamite killer to have three and deprive someone of a roster spot.
It’s good for everyone involved. Deslauriers likely will clear waivers, he’ll split time with Gerber in OKC, and Dubnyk will be the clear backup barring general zaniness. Having one goalie play 8 games, another play 1 game, and another play zero games, all while on the big club’s roster helps no one. Not the team, certainly not the goaltenders, and here’s hoping that Liam Reddox’s phone has been ringing.
Later on tonight or early tomorrow morning, I’m going to take a look into the goals that were scored on Friday versus the Hawks, followed by tomorrow’s game preview in Vancouver.
