The Oilers try to make it four in a row tonight against the visiting Phoenix Coyotes.

Lines and a smattering of things to follow after the jump.

Looking for four

Gerber

Some things to look for:

  • I’m a little bit surprised that Khabibulin is sitting this one out.  Khabibulin had better than thought return back into the lineup after a ten month absence last game, and I’m shocked that he’s not getting the consecutive nod in favour of Jeff Deslauriers.  Deslauriers is slated to start in front of Martin Gerber, who I’m pretty sure still hasn’t allowed a goal this preseason.  Someone correct me if I’m wrong there.  Deslauriers looks for a strong performance tonight in the hopes he’ll land a slot on the big club.
  • The first line is again all the rage this game.  Young guns Paajarvi and Gagner will line with Ales Hemsky in what could be an out and out freakish blur of speed the entire night.
  • Last chance for Alexandre Giroux?  Giroux is pencilled in on the fourth line with Ryan O’Marra and Colin McDonald.  A career AHL player, Giroux will need to make the most of his chances this game in order to have a shot to find himself on the opening night roster.  Liam Reddox has made the most of his chances this preseason, and it wouldn’t be a shock to find him playing the Flames next Thursday night.
  • Taylor Chorney, one-half the architects of “The Shift” is on the second pairing with Tom Gilbert.  Let’s see if…um…they can help each other.

Enjoy the game.
