It’s been a little more than five months since the Oilers last took the ice at Rexall Place, and if you’re an Oilers fan, you’re probably beating the door down to see some hockey.
Tonight, the Oilers hit the ice for the annual intra-squad matchup that is the Joey Moss Cup.
Let’s take a look at the lines, shall we?
Hall – Horcoff – Hemsky
Brule – Fraser – McDonald
Hartikainen – Vande Velde – Ondrus
Reddox – Moran – Abney
Smid – Foster
Belle – Peckham
Gilbert – Motin
Penner – Gagner – Eberle
Paajarvi – Cogliano – Giroux
Stewart – O’Marra – Stortini
Jones – Pitlick – Omark
Whitney – Petry
Petiot – Vandermeer
Chorney – Plante
- What’s the first thing you notice about these lines? If your answer was like mine, it was the lack of a certain Russian netminder somewhere on this list. Olivier Roy will start the game for Team White with Martin Gerber in reserve. If for whatever reason Khabibulin isn’t on the opening night roster in a couple of weeks, it’s likely that Devan Dubnyk and Jeff Deslauriers would be the one and two goalies. But, would it really weird you out if Gerber was on the big club? I’ve got a bright, shiny fifty cent piece that says he’s not too far from it.
- No Jacques, no MacIntyre, no Strudwick.
- The top lines for both squads are exciting. The Triple H line of Team Blue will of course be showcasing Taylor Hall, but also key cog Ales Hemsky. Playing in the middle of those scoring threats is Shawn Horcoff. It will be interesting to see how Horcoff’s play is dictated playing alongside Hemsky and Hall. Team White showcases Dustin Penner, Sam Gagner and Jordan Eberle on their first line. Paajarvi is on Team White’s second line next to Cogliano.
At the end of this one, we’re looking for a fun game with no injuries. Unable to make the game? EdmontonOilers.com is streaming it live at 7 PM MST / 9 PM EST
Enjoy the game.
