It appears that when asked about Sheldon Souray, Steve Tambellini is trying to sell.
From David Staples @ The Cult Of Hockey
Our intention is still, we’re trying to find some way where we can make a trade, some sort of scenario that can help another hockey club and it’s been difficult to do…There hasn’t been an opportunity yet to make a deal.
If I’m looking at those words at the end of August, I’m going to take a wild stab and say there’s little chance that Souray shows up in an Oiler uniform this year. I’ve read reports that state Souray is very sour on the prospects of playing in Edmonton, so this report by Mr. Staples comes as little surprise.
BUT MAYBE, this is a prep to welcome Souray back into the fold. I’ve written about how Souray may realize he has to deal with what he has, and this may be one more step into the light. If Souray should be dealt, I can’t see him fetching more than a prospect and/or a pick at this point.
What’s more controversial than Souray? Back to the same article by David Staples – this time, regarding our favourite goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin. When asked about Khabibulin, Tambellini replied
From what I know he’s doing well
Kind of a broad answer, don’t you think? I don’t speak with my father every day, but as far as I know, he’s “doing well”.
Then again, he’s not waiting to be tried on an “extreme DUI” in Arizona.
“Doing well” as, he hasn’t had a trial yet?
Doing well as “he’ll get a suspended sentence”? Everyone (including myself) seems to think that if Khabibulin is convicted of anything, he’ll be sentenced to at least thirty days.
It’s possible that Steve Tambellini knows a whole lot more than you and I.
Maybe he knows a wealth more than Tyler Dellow.
Until then I’d rather err on the side of caution, which is why I believe Edmonton signed Martin Gerber.
