Oilers Sign Goaltender Martin Gerber

Bet you didn’t see this coming.

The Oilers have come to a one year agreement with veteran goaltender Martin Gerber.

Martin Gerber is the latest add-on to the goaltending pile that is Edmonton. Gerber, 35 was signed to a one year, two-way deal that will pay him $500K in the NHL or 200K in the AHL.  This tweet by Nick Kypreos says that “the Oilers have him pegged as a 3/4 goalie in the system”.

Gerber finished with  the 09-10 season with the Altant Moscow squad of the KHL.  A member of the 2005-06 Carolina Hurricanes Cup team, Gerber is targeted to be the savoury veteran between the pipes for the OKC Barons this year.  There’s a significant chance that he could see some time in the big league with the Khabibulin scenario approaching critical mass.

A value signing with some potential for upside.
